Psychological Astrology Foundation Course

  Reflective Astrology

See yourself in a new light

A 30 week course, starting in September 2016, catering for complete beginners, but also providing fertile ground for building upon past experience and study.

Classes will he held in Lancaster on a weekday evening between 7pm and 9pm, with five classes in each school half term. The last class on this course will therefore be some time in July 2017.

The fee for the course, including textbooks, handouts and a one-to-one tutorial (see below) is £400. A 50% deposit secures a place on the course.

Class sizes will be small due to the experiential/personal development element of the course. A commitment to confidentiality and respect for fellow students is of course expected, and enrolment is restricted to people aged 16 and over who are not currently suffering from severe mental illness.

A choice of assignments will be given each week throughout the course which are optional and designed to build on the what has been looked at in class. Any such work done outside the class can be handed in for comment.

Weeks 1 to 10

During the first term we will explore the basic building blocks of astrology: the Planets, Signs/Elements, Houses and Aspects. Our exploration will be backed up by mythic stories and personal experience to deepen our understanding of the symbols. We will apply what we are learning to our own charts and charts of those we know well. (Please obtain permission from anyone whose chart you would like to bring to the class, unless they are a child in your care or unless they are deceased.)

Weeks 11 to 20

In the second term we will learn how to pick out the important themes in a person's life from the multitude of chart factors, and how to view these themes in terms of the needs and values they describe. How does the chart show inner conflict or an over-emphasis and what clues does it offer to deal with such issues? Which parts of our charts are we conscious of, and which parts are hidden or projected onto others? How did we experience different areas of the chart in childhood, and do any of our energies need to be released from old patterns of behaviour?

Asking the above questions of ourselves will remind us that while 'character is fate' to some extent, self-awareness enhances free will, and this will lead into a creative approach to the forecasting techniques commonly used by astrologers.

Other themes we will cover this term are: a further technique for getting more information from the birth chart (midpoints), how to correctly generate a birth chart from a computer (this can be done free using the internet), the most commonly used asteroids, and some astronomical basics to put things into context.

We will also try out astrodrama, where a birth chart is laid out on the floor and individuals sit around it and in some mysterious way find themselves feeling and expressing the energies described by the chart.

Between the middle of this term and the end of the course, class members are invited to arrange a one-to-one tutorial/meeting with me outside the class to discuss anything connected with the course, in either its technical or experiential aspects.

Weeks 21 to 30

Still building on our understanding of birth chart interpretation and forecasting, we will also now look at synastry techniques - how to understand the dynamics of  a relationship using the charts of the people/entities involved.

In this term we will make use of charts of public figures as examples of how various chart factors can manifest in creative or destructive ways. Class members are invited to choose people of interest to them.

The 'relocation chart' will be looked at, which involves redrawing your chart as if you had been born in a different place, to see which parts of your chart will feel stronger in that location.

To put the 'psychological astrology' that we have been studying in context, we will very briefly look at two other branches - horary astrology which uses the chart cast for the moment a question is asked to answer that question, and mundane astrology - the astrology of nations and events in the world.
